What You Need to Know About Travelling with Children

With the borders reopening and as our vaccination numbers increase, many families are looking into international travel which is still considered a high-risk activity. As such, it is important to understand the risks and health protocols so you can plan accordingly.

Travelling with little ones under normal circumstances can sometimes be daunting. Doing so amidst the pandemic will add yet another layer of complexity. Below are answers to frequently asked questions about travelling with children.

 

 

Can Children travel to the cayman islands?

Children of Caymanians, Residents and Work Permit holders are allowed to travel to the Cayman Islands regardless of vaccination status.

Tourists under the age of 12 are also allowed to visit the Cayman Islands. However, tourists age 12 and over must be vaccinated to visit the Cayman Islands.

Children 11 and younger will assume the vaccination status of their travel companions. 

Please note: unaccompanied unvaccinated tourist visitor children are not permitted to enter.

Can infants/newborns travel to the Cayman Islands?

Infants of Caymanians, Residents and Work Permit holders are allowed to travel to the Cayman Islands regardless of vaccination status.

Tourists infants are also allowed to visit the Cayman Islands.

are children required to quarantine?

This is dependent on the age of your child(ren).

  • Children age 11 and younger will assume the vaccination status of their adult travel companions. 
  • All children age 12 and over are required to be vaccinated to be exempt from quarantine.

  • Children age 11 are not required to be vaccinated - they will assume the vaccination status of their adult travel companions. 
  • All children age 12 and over are required to be vaccinated to be exempt from quarantine.

What if one parent is vaccinated and another isn't, which status does the child take?

If a child is travelling with two parents, one of which is unvaccinated, the child will assume the unvaccinated status.

what if the child is travelling alone?

  • All children age 12 years and over are required to be vaccinated to be exempt from quarantine. 
  • Unaccompanied tourist children cannot enter the Islands. 

 

Are there different rules based on children's ages?

Yes. 

  • Unvaccinated children age 11 and younger will assume the vaccination status of their adult travel companions.
  • All children age 12 and over are required to be vaccinated to be exempt from quarantine.

 

are children required to undergo pre-arrival Testing?

All incoming travellers age 5 and over must provide a negative result from a PCR or antigen-detecting rapid diagnostic test taken no earlier than the day before departure.

Children under the age of 5 are not required to undergo testing. 

 

Do children need their own travel certificate?

All travellers should have their own Travel Certificate.

 

What happens if my child tests positive for COVID-19?

All COVID-19 positive individuals are required to isolate. 

  • Fully vaccinated individuals are required to isolate for 6 days, with PCR test on day 7. 
  • Individuals not fully vaccinated are required to isolate for 9 days, with PCR test on day 10. 

 

What are the rules for children disembarking a cruise ship?

  • Any person disembarking (including children over the age of 12) must have completed an approved vaccine course at least 14 days prior to embarking the cruise ship. 
  • Unvaccinated children under the age of 12 years can only disembark when accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult.
  • Any person who tests positive for the virus or shows any symptoms of the virus is not permitted to disembark.
  • While disembarked, all passengers must comply with local regulations.
